MMPRC Celebrates WTA 2024 Wins at Velana Airport

Special Celebration Honors Maldives’ World Travel Awards 2024 Success.

On November 27, 2024, the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) hosted a special celebration at Velana International Airport to honor the Maldives’ recent triumphs at the prestigious World Travel Awards 2024. This year, the Maldives earned the title of World’s Leading Destination for the fifth consecutive year and also made history by securing the title of World’s Leading Green Destination for the very first time.


The event was graced by prominent figures, including Ibrahim Faisal, the Minister of Tourism, Ibrahim Shiuree, the CEO and Managing Director of MMPRC, and Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, the CEO and Managing Director of the Maldives Airports Company.


Ibrahim Shiuree, in his speech, expressed his satisfaction and pride in the Maldives’ ongoing success. He noted that the awards were a testament to the country’s dedication to providing exceptional travel experiences while promoting sustainable tourism. Shiuree also extended his appreciation to the industry stakeholders who have consistently contributed to solidifying the Maldives' reputation as a world-class destination.


As part of the celebration, new Maldives-themed signage was revealed at Velana International Airport, designed to further enhance the destination's global visibility and mark these important achievements. The unveiling of the signage also highlighted the Maldives’ continued focus on strengthening its brand and positioning as a premier travel destination.


These milestones reflect the Maldives’ ongoing commitment to sustainability and high-quality tourism, and they are expected to play a crucial role in the future growth of the country's tourism sector.
