Maldives Wins Leading & Green Destination Titles at 2024 WTA

In an extraordinary accomplishment, the Maldives was once again crowned the World’s Leading Destination at the 2024 World Travel Awards (WTA), marking the fifth consecutive year the country has received this esteemed recognition. This remarkable achievement cements the Maldives’ status as a global tourism powerhouse, outshining other renowned destinations such as Dubai, Greece, Indonesia, Spain, and Vietnam.

The prestigious award was presented during the WTA Grand Final Gala Ceremony, held in Madeira, Portugal, on November 24, 2024. The Maldives was represented by key officials, including Ibrahim Faisal, Minister of Tourism, Ahmed Nazim Mohamed, Minister of State for Tourism, and Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of MMPRC, who attended the event to accept the award on behalf of the country.

Ibrahim Shiuree expressed his immense pride, stating that the title reaffirms the Maldives' unique charm, exceptional hospitality, and commitment to sustainable tourism practices. He also praised the Maldives' tourism industry for its continuous efforts in making the destination one of the world’s most sought-after locations for travelers.

The Maldives now holds the distinction of being both the World’s Leading Destination and the World’s Leading Green Destination.
