Madifushi Private Island has unveiled a bold Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to plant 5,000 coconut palms across the islands of Meemu Atoll over the next 12 months. This green campaign reflects the resort's commitment to sustainability and community engagement.

The project was officially launched on November 25th at M. Rayimandhoo, with key stakeholders in attendance, including representatives from local and island councils, the resort’s management team, and the MIC Group’s board members.

Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Managing Director of MIC Group, praised the collaboration with local councils, highlighting the group’s dedication to building strong relationships with the islands of Meemu Atoll. He described the project as part of the company’s broader goal of supporting regional communities and fostering shared growth.

The Group General Manager, Ali Shakir, emphasized that sustainability and community empowerment lie at the heart of Madifushi Private Island’s mission. He described the coconut palm planting initiative as a meaningful step toward promoting ecological preservation while benefiting the local population.

In partnership with local communities, the resort has pinpointed prime locations across Meemu Atoll for planting. These include mosques, schools, reclaimed lands, and the site of the upcoming domestic airport. The initiative will cover several islands, including Dhiggaru, Raiymandhoo, Mulah, Veyvah, Naalaafushi, Maduvvaree, Muli, Kolhufushi, and Madifushi Private Island itself.

This initiative supports the Maldives government’s ambition of planting 5 million trees, a goal announced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on World Environment Day. It reflects a shared vision of environmental stewardship and a commitment to combating climate challenges.

Madifushi Private Island, known for its luxurious accommodations and eco-friendly practices, aims to ensure the Maldives' pristine beauty is preserved for future generations. Mohamed Hilmy, General Manager of the resort, highlighted the initiative as a chance to leave a lasting impact on the environment and local heritage. “This isn’t just about planting trees; it’s about creating a legacy of sustainability and resilience,” he said.

By planting 5,000 coconut palms, Madifushi Private Island is contributing to environmental conservation while fostering the well-being of communities across Meemu Atoll. The initiative exemplifies the resort’s dedication to sustainable tourism and its role as a responsible corporate leader in the Maldives.
